Studio Žemyna
About Me
I love denim. I have been working in the denim industry for over 10 years designing and producing garments for the youth fashion market.
What I don’t like is the waste created by the denim industry and fast fashion in general. I am passionate about recycling fabrics, reducing landfill and improving the environment every way that I can.
Everything is made lovingly by me, by hand. I use vintage fabrics, denim cut offs and recycled denim leg tubes (samples that usually get thrown away) from local Melbourne denim brands.
One-off pieces are created using an old 1970’s Husqvarna sewing machine that my mum used to make my clothes. It still runs incredibly well and reinforces the fact to me to never get rid of things just because they go out of style.
Each piece features recycled, repurposed and vintage materials.
Why Studio Žemyna?
My mum was Lithuanian and after losing her when I was a teenager it has always been important to me to keep the connection to her and her incredible culture alive.
In Lithuania Žemyna is the Goddess of the Earth (žemė translates to the word earth). It seemed fitting that if I was ever to start a company, it should represent my commitment to the planet and my heritage.
Why buy from Studio Žemyna?
When you purchase from Studio Žemyna you are not only supporting a local, small business but you are supporting sustainability and protecting the planet from unnecessary waste.
